A vintage trunk coffee table provides both aesthetic and functional features to all living rooms or family rooms. There are many styles to choose from in different shapes and sizes. Design and build your own table that has stability, simplicity and affordability
Use a strip of tape to grind all surfaces on the finished pine. If desired, round sharp corners of all working edges. Wipe wood with a dampened cloth from a bucket of water to wash all existing abrasive dust from wood. Make the parishes the table leg by placing the two legs on either side of the leg brace length. Measure so that the legs will be placed 1/2 inches active from the end of each side of the leg support length. Align two holes with a small drill and drill through the width of the leg support near the center of each intended leg location. Angle the boreholes.
Place each leg under leg support and screw 3- inch long wood screws into the pre-drilled holes pilot and make sure to lower the conical heads in the soft pine forest. Repeat for the second leg and then make another leg with the remaining two legs, brace and 3-inch wood screw. Place the intended top of the coffee table facing down and measure 4 inches inward from each end of the table top length. Make a small pilot project hole through the width of the leg support on the inside corner of each leg. Make another pilot hole in the middle of the leg support length, but on the opposite side of the other two holes.
Screw 2 1/2 inch wooden screws into the guide holes of each support leg. Zinc the conical heads in the soft pine forest of the leg braces. Wood-burn an artistic design or image on top of the coffee table, if desired. You can use a router to make a recessed frame in the surface of the tabletop around the image. Color the coffee table if desired with a bite and a brush. Allow the stain to dry. Add an extra layer if necessary. Paint the coffee table with wood lacquer and a brush if desired. Allow to dry before use.
